I am a marine artist and Illustrator working mostly in oil paint but also pencil, watercolour and chalk. I have been a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists for nearly 20 years.

​

I paint a wide range of subjects but have chosen to specialise in marine art. I think the old classics yachts are still the most beautiful sight on the water. In a strong wind with the sun on their sails, powering down towards you, they are magnificent. To be out on the water recording the action as they thunder past is fantastic.”

 

My work has taken me to sailing events in the Solent, Antigua, St Tropez and the BVI and includes classic yachts, modern racing boats, local sailing fleets, naval ships, seascapes and marker buoys.

 

I paint for exhibition and commission working from life but mostly from photos to help me capture the event at its best.

              I also spent 7 years as a volunteer crew member on Cowes Inshore Lifeboat and later the RNLI in Cowes. There were a great many routine callouts and patrols interspersed with some very serious incidents and loss of life. The pager could go off at any time, day or night, often interrupting my painting. It was a fascinating experience that enriched my knowledge and understanding of the Solent and all that floats (and sinks) on it.
